Turnip from the oven with sausage

A casserole with slightly-sweet turnip - not to be confused with kohlrabi! - and fresh sausage. Cumin cheese makes it special. - Text Jolande Vos from I Love Food & Wine | Image Pexels.com

Turnip from the oven with sausage

Preparation: 40 minutes

What you need (4 people)

  • 1 turnip, diced
  • 300 ml of milk
  • 300 ml of broth
  • 2 tbsp crème fraîche
  • Salt, freshly ground pepper
  • 150 g cumin cheese, diced
  • 50 g butter
  • 4 fresh sausages of your choice
  • Extra: oven dish

This is how you make it

Put in a pan: turnip, milk and stock. Bring to the boil and let the turnip cubes cook almost until tender in about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, stir the crème fraîche with 3 tbsp of the cooking liquid.
Preheat the oven to 200°C (possibly with additional top heat from the grill). Drain the turnip in a colander, and spoon into a baking dish. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Spread the cubed cumin cheese and crème fraîche on top. Place the dish in the oven for about 20 minutes and allow the top to brown lightly.
Meanwhile, heat the butter in a pan. Fry the sausages for about 15 minutes. Watch the kohlrabi. Serve with mashed potatoes and a green salad with toasted pumpkin seeds.
