Job Joosse on Catalan wine

1. The course is still a while away. Can you give away wine region Catalonia in a few sentences?

'You can taste Catalonia and the character of the Catalans in their wines. Progressive and at the same time very proud of their own language, culture, rich history and traditions. Here, also for wine, innovation goes hand in hand with tradition. In Catalonia, the wine revolution began that can now be so clearly felt, seen and tasted throughout Spain.'

2. Well-known sub-regions are Penedès and Priorat. What should we drink to imagine ourselves there?

'One of the most spectacular sparkling wines I ever tasted was a Gramona Corpinnat freshly disgorged in front of my nose. That wine was so full of excitement and vibrancy, brilliant! I was given the bottle and drank it on the Mediterranean beach that same evening. Mas d'en Gil by Marta Rovira I also have special memories of. It is breathtakingly beautiful located near the village of Bellmunt del Priorat. Its special terroir with llicorella the powerful wines have a very refined mineral freshness that gives depth and balance. 'When I taste Mas d'en Gil, I imagine myself among the vineyards and olive trees, overlooking Serra de Montsant.'
