Reception

A private tasting with Alister Purbrick of Tahbilk Winery is no mean feat. He is an icon in the Australian wine industry and the fourth generation of this oldest wine family business in Victoria, dating back to 1860. So we prepared thoroughly (read: pre-tasted) with help from the bottles sent by De Monnik Dranken, Tahbilk's importer in the Netherlands. Drinking in immediately made us a little less nervous. Alister fortunately turns out to be a very amiable winemaker, happy to tell us all about his wines!

Theory

Repeating everything does not work here. Be sure to watch the drone videos on TAHBILK.COM.AU because from the air, you can really see the vineyards on islands between the wetlands lie. The climate here is strongly influenced by the proximity of a large mass of freshwater, which has a dampening effect on the temperature. It also boasts a unique soil of red and sandy loam with a high iron oxide content.
