Spring

The vineyard woke up from hibernation at the end of March. The roots are active and the sap flow is on. Supple branches are bent and attached to wires, the soil is loosened and possibly fertilised. Eco-friendliness is common in Austria; often cut grasses and herbs are already enough food for the soil. This is also the time to replace dead vines and plant new ones.

The Austrian wine law has been amended and one of the results is that the Wagram region now has a DAC (Districtus Austriae Controllatus), a protected designation of origin. It is now the 17th official wine-growing region.

Boss on the Meuse

The Maas Valley Limburg PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) has been the first cross-border wine region of origin since 2018. After all, a terroir for grapes does not care about a national border. For thousands of years, the Meuse deposited layers of gravel and pebbles, on top of which came a layer of loam. Now the Meuse valley there is one of the driest areas in the Benelux.

Dear sommelier

And the winner is... Salvatore Castano from Italy. He has yet to prove himself in the finals of the ASI Best Sommelier of the World competition. But in Cyprus, he has already become the best sommelier in Europe and Africa.
