New perspective

The raw wine movement which is led by Master of Wine Isabelle Legeron is spreading like an oil slick. Not a good comparison, because this is actually about making wine in an environmentally friendly and natural way. So grape growing that is as healthy as possible for the environment, but also letting nature take its course as much as possible when producing wine, with natural wine, orange wine and vegan wine as results. You can recently look back online at the big festival Alive! from late 2021, and that is worth a mention. Because ultimately, the large-scale wine industry is also facing a turning point and can be inspired by, and draw on, ideas from artisan winemakers.

Father and son Wohlmut from Austria's Kitzeck im Sausal have been allowed to put some responsible labels on their bottles. Their Rieden, vineyards, are so steep that nature must be left untouched. Southern Styria, near the Slovenian border, is the steepest wine-growing region in Europe, with a gradient of up to 90 per cent, and also the highest.
