Drink in style

Wine bottles in custom-made, illuminated display cases and wine refrigerators: stunning to behold. As we focus on the island feel in this edition of WINELIFE, we take a look at the island of Britain and Australia. The largest island in the world competing in the atlas as a continent. Here you will find a number of catering establishments with exceptional wine cabinets. Blingbling types. Both countries are worth visiting to meet local wine producers. After a day in the vineyard and cellar, it is time for the icing on the cake. Wine tasting in local bars and dining in the best restaurants.

Luxury hotel chain Shangri-La has taken to collecting wine. In Asia, they are known for their penchant for Bordeaux from the best vintages and you will find these at the hotel's Hong Kong branch. There is an annual wine dinner here at Restaurant Petrus where another 1955 Château d'Yquem opened in 2020. The dinner costs €4,000, but for less money you can sit with your glass of wine at the bar at Shangri-La The Shard in London. High in the Renzo Piano Building and overlooking the city. Here they also ordered a wine wall from Eurocave, one of the most famous suppliers. And this is for the many champagnes the hotel serves. Further down London, French chef Joël Robuchon's Michelin-starred restaurant in Covent Garden has unfortunately closed, but luckily we still have the photo.
