Fancy Sauv!

When the sun shines, we like to sit outside with a glass of wine. Often the choice falls on Sauvignon Blanc. Why? The grape is an all-rounder that quenches every thirst. Even the judges of the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon know this. They tasted hundreds of them. - TEXT + IMAGE EDITORS

Fancy Sauv!

It was like the song contest, so many countries were present in Portugal for the competition. From all the entries, a ranking was made after jury evaluation and medals were hung on the winners. We are talking about the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon 2022, the biggest and most important international competition entirely dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc.

Summer wine par excellence

When you sit down on a terrace and order white wine, the question often follows: Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc? Apart from the fact that summer wines are made from many more white grapes - or from red grapes, in which case you get a blanc de noir - Sauvignon is thereby sold short. After all, it is not simply a fresher wine where Chardonnay is a bit sweeter: 'Sauv' comes in many diverse styles. For WINELIFE, we previously tasted drinkable Chilean and South African versions with aromas of pear and citrus, such as Viu Manent and Boschendal respectively, as well as many dusty New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs with flint, green pepper and melon. Plus sparkling Sekt made from 100 per cent Sauvignon Blanc from the Palatinate (Oliver Zeter) and, even further off the signposted paths, sweet blends from Sauternes (Thomas Barton), dry wines from India (Sula) and pure natural orange wine from the Loire (Domaine Joël Delaunay). Mmm!
