MALLORCAN BATTLE

MALLORCAN BATTLE

Every year in September, the wine harvest is celebrated in Majorca's wine town of Binissalem, in the middle of one of the island's two wine-producing D.O. regions. The highlight is the Gran Batalla de Raïm: the battle of the grapes. If Binissalem is just a sleepy enclave for most of the year, the town gets a good wake-up call at that time! Did you know that wine was already being made in mallorca over a hundred years before Christ. Prohibition under Arab rule, but especially the devastating invasion of phylloxera in the 19th century, reduced the vineyard area from thirty thousand hectares to just six thousand.
