Astrid Joosten and Thérèse Boer's web shop has been among our bookmarks for years. They are both critical tasters of the wines they buy and also have their own label with wines composed by themselves. Astrid's Prestige Cuvées were recently awarded.
Congratulations! Can you tell a bit about the winning wines?
'A Chardonnay, which is nice and buttery yet crispy and fresh, and a Syrah, both with nice wood ageing. I knew exactly what flavour and quality I wanted and found it after years of searching through French winemakers. Together with a winemaker, I created these special cuvées and they recently won a gold medal at the Frankfurt International Trophy and the Berliner Wine Trophy. I'm obviously very proud of that.'
What is the collaboration with Thérèse Boer like?
When we have a wine tasting, sometimes we can't both be there at the same time. The opened bottles are then left for the other, but we know in advance from each other that we will like exactly the same wines best. There is a great naturalness between us in all areas.'
