Masseria Borgo dei Trulli, Ficheto Bianco, Puglia 2020

Masseria Borgo dei Trulli, Ficheto Bianco, Puglia 2020

Southern Italy gives us large volumes of rich Primitivo wines. The special white wines seem to get snowed under because of it. Hence the inclusion of a wonderful white wine from Puglia. An unknown wine from a great area!

Masseria Borgo dei Trulli

The Masseria Borgo dei Trulli winery is located in Maruggio, in the province of Taranto close to the Ionian coast. It is in the Salento region, a prestigious area where fantastic Primitivo is made. Masseria Borgo dei Trulli therefore makes the most of the land, climate and vineyards to produce the best wines this region has to offer. The winery found an old masseria surrounded by ancient vines and decided to use this unique location to build its new state-of-the-art winery, where it can produce excellent wines from its own vineyards. The winery is located in Roselle in the municipality of Maruggio, about 5 kilometres from the Ionian Sea and in the heart of the DOP Primitivo di Manduria. You will also find in this particular region of Puglia, scattered among vineyards and olive groves, numerous ancient stone cottages that are trulli are called Italian plural for trullo. The trulli in this area are better known as Saracen trulli, because they differ from the more traditional trulli in the Itria valley north of the Masseria: these have a domed roof instead of a cone-shaped one. This is where Masseria Borgo dei Trulli gets its name.

With this Ficheto, it is as if you have arrived at the Rio de Janeiro carnival. The wine is brimming with richness and expression. A tireless blend of fruit and passion. You can't help but sway along to the rhythm of this glass!

Flavour description

The aroma is like an explosion of fruit Roosen spices and perfume. But with an exciting twist of passion fruit, which makes the wine just a little more exciting. On the palate, the wine gives a seductive mouthfeel without being thick or heavy. At the core, this wine is pleasantly fresh and very expressive, think flavours like papaya and mango with a pleasant twist of tangerine. This provides refreshment at the end of the mouth. In the aftertaste, the wine becomes playful and a touch mischievous where we get to see the passion fruit and fruit again. This gives the wine extra length and leaves you with a purified mouthfeel. The wine to spice up a swinging moment and a wine to celebrate life with!

Application

If you pour this wine at a party in the sun, do so well chilled at 7 °C. This is to bring the intense side of the wine to the fore. Use a narrow glass to temper the overwhelming perfume slightly. When the wine is allowed to accompany a meal, give it space to show all its richness. You do this by serving it at a temperature of 10°C in a spacious glass. The degree of richness you need depends on the dish it should accompany. The more expressive the dish, the more the wine is allowed to show off. This wine is already in top form, so there is certainly no need to wait. Also, opening or decanting far in advance is absolutely unnecessary. It is a wine of 'instant pleasure'

Wine and food

Given that this is a very expressive wine, it can also be paired with heartier flavours. Think of a nice Indian curry or a chicken madras. In any case, all dishes with spices and fruit will pair beautifully. But products from the sea also find their way with this wine, think spicy prawns and chilli sauce or a salad of salmon with poached egg. For the vegetarian eaters among us, this wine is multi purpose. Think of a dish with cauliflower, pumpkin asparagus, and don't be afraid to use spices there the Ficheto can handle fine.
