Soil life

'Made in North Brabant', it says on Rudy and Quirien Schellekens' bottles of wine. And Made, in this case, is where vineyard De Linie is located. Classic grape varieties like pinot noir, pinot blanc, riesling and gewürztraminer grow here. Just on Dutch soil. The two work as naturally and sustainably as possible. Rudy Schellekens: 'Good soil life keeps the plant healthy; the basis of a good glass of wine.'

The Line

The 44-year-old company has long been producing award-winning wines in international competitions. Intercontinental, De Linie was the first Dutch wine to be poured by KLM in its business class. And locally, their white wine is in the top 10 of sommelier Max van Bockel (Restaurant RIJKS* Amsterdam), among others. That says it all. It was only 3 years ago that the Schellekens couple took over De Linie to devote themselves to hard work in the cellar and vineyard with 5,000 vines. Rudy: 'I always wanted to be outside, working with my hands, but ended up in business first. Now that I have become a farmer, a dream has come true.'
