Platter's Wine Guide
Platter's is the wine guide to South African wines. It contains descriptions of more than 900 producers and many reviews of wines, wineries and vineyards of the Cape. Among the 2022 five-star wines, Creation Wines from the Hemel-en-Aarde wine region was represented four times, twice with a Chardonnay and twice with a Pinot Noir. Momento Wines won in the white blends category with the 2020 Chenin Blanc-Verdelho and the 2019 Grenache Noir also received the highest score of five stars. Not surprisingly, because founder and winemaker Marelise Niemann developed a fascination for the grenache grape when she saw in the Priorat region of Spain how a fresh and lively style of wine was made from old vines. She wanted to realise this too.
Winery of the Year
A highlight of each new edition are the Winery of the Year Awards. The Newcomer Winery of the Year is awarded to the producer debuting this year in Platter's and achieved the highest scores. The well-deserved winner of this award is Jolette Steyns The Vineyard Party. It is a new small-batch project of refined Sémillon wines by respected oenologist Jolette Steyn, who has previously worked as a winemaker at prominent South African wineries. The Top Performing Winery of the Year goes to the winery that achieves the most five stars after the annual final tasting. This year's worthy recipient is Sadie Family Wines - for the 3rd time!
