THE TASTIEST WINES FROM PORTUGAL

That Portugal has much more to offer than port we have long known, but that the choice in still white and red wines is so great was a surprise to us too. You break your tongue. Not about the wines - certainly not - but about the names of the grape varieties from which Portugal's wines are made. Only occasionally do you come across familiar ones like cabernet sauvignon, merlot or syrah. Most consist of autochthonous, purely Portuguese varieties: alfrocheiro, castelão, alicante bouschet, all tourigas, sousãos, bical, encruzado, fernão pires, gouveio, viosinho, rabigato and so on. How fun is that? Very nice!
