Esporão Bico Amarelo Vinho Verde

Esporão Bico Amarelo Vinho Verde

An uplifting fresh wine with a tropical edge, made from the authentic Portuguese grape varieties loureiro, alvarinho and avessos. Meet a textbook example of a classic Vinho Verde: the Esporão Bico Amarelo. A green wine, in other words, which, by the way, does not look green. This designation only indicates that the wine was bottled very young and is a wine that should best be drunk within a year of harvest. At least, if you want to experience its characteristic fruit and freshness.

This Esporão from Quinta do Ameal comes from Portugal's coolest and wettest region, the Vinho Verde DOC. Here, vineyards stretch from the Douro River to the Minho River in north-western Portugal. It is also the greenest region of Portugal. Everything grows here and the grape vine in particular does great here. Grape bunches used to be hung from pergolas to protect them from rot. Nowadays, they opt for a more practical solution and grow the tendrils along wires at a height of 1.5 metres. Here they get more sunshine and can be harvested mechanically.

The low temperature during the growing season means that Vinho Verde wines have less alcohol and somewhat higher acidity. Such fresh wines go great with aperitifs - especially if you go to the Loja de Peixe, the Portuguese fish shop, for that. It pairs excellently with southern fish such as anchovies, sardines, mackerel and stockfish. Put those on the barbecue or grill pan and you have a match made in heaven.
