At the new pastry shop Smullies in Maastricht, you will feel like a kid in a sweet shop. Chef Servais Tielman of star restaurant Beluga Loves You is responsible for coming up with all the flavours and creating new delicacies. Servais: 'The range is crafted from top-quality ingredients. Besides the famous Big Boy Macaron, where it all started, there is a selection of pastries available, such as eclairs, madeleines, luxury pastries, cakes and chocolates.' Since the opening of the two branches last March and May, queues have been forming at the door. Our eye fell among all the works of art on this tarte au citron. But what do you drink with that? We know that a sweet wine suits desserts because there is sugar in the dish, but because of the lemon, you also want acid in the wine.

Unorthodox

Where once the mass wine was served by the priest, symbolising the blood of Jesus, the wine is now served by sommelier Nick Nijkamp and the black brigade of restaurant Noor. That is because it has taken up residence in the 1927 Theresia Chapel in Groningen. Noor is the second restaurant of Jeroen and Marleen Brouwer, who previously ran star restaurant De Loohoeve. They want to establish a distinctive and unorthodox high-level restaurant in the church.
