Online meetings where you raise your glasses at the same time are hosted, for example, by a winemaker or wine importer, like the tasting WINELIFE had with Sandro Bottega. Or by a sommelier, who tastes a selection of bottles from a wine shop with you. You order the tasting package of wines in advance and get the link for the live event on the date itself via email. - TEXT MARJOLEIN SCHUMAN
Online wine tasting is also possible by appointment, with a group you choose yourself. We see colleagues, family and friends infrequently these days, so what could be nicer than raising a glass with them, but at an appropriate distance? In the US, Tasting Tuesday with wines is a hit on Instagram and winemakers from Napa Valley are putting their tasting rooms online. In the Netherlands, during the first corona wave in 2020, Peter Meijer came up with the virtual wine tasting as a fun outing with his colleagues, a kind of remote free mibo where you also learn something. He has since Wine tastingonline.co.uk made of it and works with three sommeliers. Here's a sample of what's on offer.
In Winelife #69, you will find a selection of the various tastings.
