Italy tasting is popular

Less red wine and more rosé, but also: Italy more popular at the expense of France. That's what's going on in the wine world.

In Dutch supermarkets, the share of French wines is decreasing. In our liquor stores, Italy already exceeds France by volume. So you can just take a long journey through Italy at home with the wines and dishes from different regions. Because what an unprecedentedly rich wine culture this country has! Just like France, it is bursting with different grape varieties, terroirs and winemakers who were brought up on the craft and drink by their families. From the young red Vino Novello in November (the Beaujolais Primeur tradition adopted from the French) to the red powerhouse Barolo, made from the slow-ripening nebbiolo grape. From the sparkling Franciacorte from the northern Italian region of Lombardy to the sweet wine Passito di Pantelleria, from the tiny volcanic island of Pantelleria diagonally below Sicily.
