Whose gigantic wine bottle is that? Wine farmers, rappers and Formula 1 drivers like to show off their skills with a magnum. But in practical terms, such a big bottle is not easy to transport and pour, and there is also a technical drawback: the wine does not mature as quickly because the little oxygen that the cork lets through does have to influence much more wine.

The Betuwe is the fruit garden of the Netherlands. With plum orchards, but also grapes. Throughout the Betuwe, you walk past orchards full of beautiful white and pink blossom or visit vineyards in spring. And what do you do afterwards? Eat and drink at Brasserie Poelzicht, for example. French bistro cuisine combined with strictly French wines is unique to the region. Poelzicht is thus a piece of France in the Betuwe.

Free radicals

For your health, you obviously shouldn't go clocking away bottles of wine. That's pretty radical and you can be sure of the negative effects of alcohol. But in most cases, the occasional glass can do no harm, and sometimes even good. This is because wine contains antioxidants, including resveratrol. Antioxidants are substances that protect cells from unstable molecules called free radicals, which cause diseases such as cancer and heart disease. The content can vary by variety: red wine contains much more antioxidants than white.
