Bergen in North Holland is close to the sea and is a real artists' village where painters once (Charlie Toorop) and now (Rob Scholte) found inspiration. As icing on the cake, chef Victor Fielmich and hostess-sommelier Elvira Kemman have opened their bistro ElVi there. They serve mostly French classics in a contemporary twist. The picture shows quail roasted on the carcass, confit quail leg with poultry gravy and duck liver cream sauce. The combination with a wine bar is unique to Bergen. Everyone is welcome for a good glass of wine, whether the conversation is about art or the beach weather. Victor and Elvira previously ran restaurant ElVi in Utrecht, awarded a Bib Gourmand award from Michelin. Besides the wine list, ElVi boasts a beautiful air-conditioned wine cabinet with more than a hundred exclusive wines. As an interested guest, Elvira will gladly take you there to make your choice.

South Australian wine icon d'Arry Osborn of d'Arenberg wine estate died late last year at the age of 95. He was the third generation of winemakers (since 1912) in the McLaren Vale wine region and president of the Wine and Brandy Producers Association of South Australia. He oversaw 70 vintages. At harvest or in the wine cellar, he was comfortable wearing dinner jacket shirts, 'to give the reds more elegance'. As a reminder, two bottles of unctuous Australian Shiraz for this winter. The name Dead Arm refers not to the effects of the wine on your body, but to the plant disease that leads to the death of the vine's 'arm'. This causes low yields, making the fruit all the more intense. Wine critic James Suckling gave 94 points: 'Top class Shiraz with aromas of cocoa, dark plums, blackberries, cinnamon, liquorice and dark cherries.' You can recognise d'Arenberg bottles by the slanted red stripe that has been on the label since 1959.
