Sotheby's first wine auction in Switzerland has raised a whopping €592,000. A collection of 16 lots or lots with old vintages of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) attracted the most interest.

Eight of the 10 best-selling lots came from this estate in the Côte de Nuits, the most famous in Burgundy and perhaps in the world. Three of their 1971 magnums La Tâche, for instance, sold for the highest amount of €130,750, more than double the estimate. It was the first time a sale of wine and spirits was held in the capital Geneva, despite the fact that wine has been sold by the auction house for 50 years - first in London, then in New York, Hong Kong and more recently in France. Of all the lots, 91 per cent went to a new owner, immediately a fine score, and 64 per cent yielded more than advance estimates. Buyers from 14 countries participated, across Asia, Europe and North America, and they included several start-ups.
