Worth a diversion

Worth a diversion

Germany's remote but enchanting Zellertal is worth a diversion. In the vineyards, you can tell by the flowers and the bees that they are fans of organic cultivation. The youngest winemakers are thinking not only about the climate, but also about the changing tastes of wine drinkers.

The area used to be popular, but then the sweet wine style made its appearance in Germany. The new generation is now trying to make the valley speak again in dry wines. Forward-thinking Georg Schwedhelm, for example, who tells WINELIFE that the terroir consists of limestone soils, the cool climate of the north and the warmth of the sun. Georg: 'That produces wines with minerality; sleek, cool, wines.' The Zellertal is both in Rheinhessen and the northernmost tip of the Palatinate. In this wine region, they like to celebrate and celebrate a lot. The season of wine festivals is in full swing: maybe you fancy the world's biggest wine festival in Bad Dürkheim?
