Wine region Nahe | Germany

It looks like a painting, so beautiful. A peaceful landscape of vineyards, orchards and meadows interspersed with cliffs and striking rock formations. The Nahe is named after the river that crosses the valleys of the wooded hills of the Hunsrück, as it flows gently towards the town of Bingen am Rhein. Hildegard of Bingen's monastery there represents German medieval mysticism, but we find the landscape mystical enough. - TEXT EDITORS | IMAGE PEXELS.COM

Wine region Nahe | Germany

Although the Nahe, with its 4,239 hectares, is one of the smaller German wine regions, the number of soil types is remarkably large due to a rather turbulent geological history. And that in turn has the consequence that a great diversity of grapes can grow here and many wine styles can be produced. Riesling, of course, but also rivaner, silvaner, dornfelder and the various pinot grapes thrive.

Discover wines at one of the many wine festivals on the Naheweinstraße, which usually take place in late summer. Enjoy the views from local cycling trails, such as the Radweg Nahe. Prefer hiking? Then follow the beautiful 100-kilometre Weinwanderweg Rhein-Nahe in Soonwald-Nahe Nature Park.

Here in der Nähe. That means: close to here. And indeed it is only a 3-hour drive from Maastricht to wander through 2,000 years of wine tradition.
