Spotted: viticulture as theme for a hurdle in jumping event at Olympics

Just a nice touch in between. If you follow the Olympics, you may have noticed this picture last Friday. The whole games are, of course, great city marketing of Paris. But from time to time, the French tourist board also takes an interest in other aspects of France and French culture. Wine, for instance, also plays a role in this. We discovered this picture at the team jumping competition at Château de Versailles. Course builder Santiago Varela also designed a hurdle with bunches of grapes and wine barrels. Jumper Harrie Smolders successfully jumped over this special hurdle with his dark brown stallion Uricas vd Kattevennen. Besides wine, there were also hurdles with, for example, the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, the rose window of Notre Dame, the so-called Colonnes Morris (after the French painter and typographer Gabriel Morris who designed these iconic green billboards with onion-shaped dome and hexagonal eaves in 1868 for theatre posters and later advertising), and even gastronomy was represented by a hurdle with macarons.

For fans: the Dutch team unfortunately came fourth and fell just outside the medals. I say santé in advance. Because we'll probably get some more plaques in the coming days. 🇳🇱🏆🥇🥈🥉🧡
