Mijndert Pon (1932-2014) was a true entrepreneur, a man with entrepreneurial blood. Pon fell in love with the pampas and endless plains of Argentina, lying against the high mountains of the Andes: the Uco Valley. Here he wanted to realise his dream: to make wines that could rival the best in the world. In 1999, Bodegas Salentein's first wines hit the market. International recognition and medals followed soon after. A true entrepreneur does not sit still. So did Pon. Due to its great success, he soon founded a second bodega, this time in San Juan, under the name Bodegas Callia. This winery too became a success, so Pon expanded to the outskirts of San Juan, where he planted mainly syrah.
