Petri's foreword: Ciao!

Petri's foreword: Ciao!

Finally, it's June. The time of year when the evenings are long and balmy and holidays beckon. Wherever you find yourself this summer or whatever your plans are, indulge in the occasional la dolce far niente. In other words, doing the sweet NOTHING. Except, of course, picking the right wine.

We'll help you with that, as we chose Italy as the theme for this edition of WINELIFE. If there is one place where they have elevated enjoying life to an art, it is there. The Italians are masters at making beautiful wines that they then pair with delicious food. Read about that on page 88 where the recipes accompany the fresh mountain wines from the Buying guide covering Alto Adige, selected by Evelijn van Heuven.

Of course, the classics from Tuscany cannot be missed. Magda van der Rijst, together with sommelier Roos Stevens, selected the best wines from here. From Bolgheri and Chianti to a Vino Nobile di Montepulciano that is a match for pasta Genovese. Another cult wine region is Piedmont where this time we limited ourselves to white wines made from unknown grape varieties.

The wine world is changing at lightning speed, and so are the old-fashioned classics. Port, for instance, have you ever tasted it as a summer rosé variant? Whatever wine you choose, read the label on the bottle carefully. Because it will soon contain much more information on it. Our expert tells all about it on page 74.

It is another edition packed with juicy stories and trivia. Have a nice glass of wine ready, because you're bound to get thirsty while reading.

WINELIFE wishes you a wonderful summer!
