Niels van Laatum (@NEZPOURVIN) shares a wine discovery every time. He wrote a book on natural wine, gives wine lectures and travels the world in search of that one exceptional bottle, region, grape or winemaker.
This time the spotlight on a lesser-known Italian wine region: Romagna, the right side of the northern region of Emilia-Romagna. This wine region runs from Bologna to Rimini on the Adriatic coast. They make red and white wine there from mainly sangiovese and albana. Albana was even the first Italian white wine with DOCG status in 1987! This tip is an ode to two female winemakers: the young Chiara Condello, who makes deliciously quirky organic wines in Predappio, and the experienced Raffaella Bissoni in Bertinoro, who started back in 1988 and runs her vineyards with a biodynamic approach. Both make fantastic wines each in their own way.
