It's over again that beautiful summer. In Europe, most grapes have already been processed into wine-in-waiting. On the other side of the world, spring has just broken through. Meanwhile, we at WINELIFE have not been idle. Travelled, tasted and researched so that once again 100 pages are filled with wine news from around the world.
The theme of this edition is America. That is why Magda van der Rijst and Evelijn van Heuven's tasting tables were full of bottles of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from North and South America. To make it complete, we describe the current state of affairs in the sunny wine state of California. Did you know that California is now the fourth largest wine producer in the world after France, Italy and Spain?
European wine countries are also covered. We set off to the southernmost tip of Spain to unravel the secrets of sherry. Kees Verplanke followed the trail of the Romans in the northern Rhone valley. And Jacques Hermus talks tastefully about the spices of the Aveyron and the Tarn and over Gaillac, one of France's oldest wine regions. A nice mix, then, of wines from classic Europe and the New World. What exactly are the differences between them? Check out the facts in Expert Tells.
WINELIFE also considers it important to write about unknown varieties. Hence, in this issue we don't give a man, but a 'grape with flavour' the lead role on page 24. Meet mystery guest teroldego from Italy - and taste it immediately in your wine box with the Plus or Premium subscription. Enjoy!
