Our goal

Schuermann, an entrepreneur from Switzerland, says: "The Château De Gensac is very close to my heart. My goal is to create a modern wine and Amagnac that is composed with excellence and detail, but also focused on applicability in today's society.'

'We simply want people to try, discover and become part of what we do. Either through the lifestyle we portray or through collaborations with other industries. These collaborations can range incredibly from sports, art and fashion to forward-thinking industry insiders,' he adds.

Past and present

The history of the 13th-century castle is obviously very valuable and therefore cherished. Yet Jan and Kim have their eyes firmly fixed on the here and now for the product.

'We both believe in combining tradition with modernity. The importance of networking and partnerships is at the heart of our success. We want to be interactive, playful and experiential where we feel wine, as an industry, had not been so emerging in the past,' he adds.

Production

As far as production is concerned, most of the grapes on the land near the Château are picked by hand. This is to ensure that only the best ingredients are gathered for the product. Which allows the product to meet the highest quality standards. As a result, the Gensac wines are able to compete with the best of their guild.

Armagnac is probably France's oldest and most traditional spirit. It is aged and refined in new French oak barrels. This creates a unique and distinctive product that is among the best of its kind. The Château has also recently added the very first Kosher Amagnac, authenticated by Rabbis.

'We have a team of 10 permanent staff who look after the entire estate. About half of these are dedicated to the wine and Armagnac side of our operations. This increases significantly with temporary staff during important seasonal work such as harvesting,' adds Schuermann.

The aim is to build a selected global presence. The company mainly sells wines and Armagnacs in Europe, but has recently added the United States, Canada and Hong Kong to its reach.

Both the Gensac wine and Armagnac are available through Drenth International.
