Félix Meyer of Domaine Meyer-Fonné is a pure craftsman. When blending his wines, he sets the bar very high. Aura Meyer is from administration, but just as much a perfectionist. We meet her online and she talks about the various suddenly which they own as far as wine village Riquewihr, "vineyards as divided as in Burgundy! 1. In 1992, you decided to join your father's estate. What happened?

'I developed exports and sales, and it was also time to modernise the facilities and equipment. I was keen to make the perfect Vins d'Alsace and put my stamp on the growing methods of the grapes and the blends. All in agreement with my father, of course.'

2. Our reviewer Harold Hamersma says that partly because of your innovations in the vineyard, your wine stays away from old Alsatian chubbiness and is instead refreshing, with backbone.

'We go for maintaining the optimum qualities of fruit and freshness of the grapes. Freshness and acidity is in the DNA of Alsace wine. A dry style, but with open aromas; the first nose should immediately contain explosive fruit. The terroir is very important here.'

3. You have a mosaic of terroirs, Aura told me.

'Yes. Such a patchwork of different soils offers me the advantage of being able to cultivate each grape variety in the right terroir. For example, granite soils give a very delicate, elegant structure to riesling.
