5 questions to... the Quady's

Andrew and Laurel Quady are pioneers. Instead of making Californian Chardonnay, Cabernet or Pinot Noir, they chose a different path: that of dessert wine. The first was made in 1975, so 50 vintages of Quady wine will be celebrated in 2025. What's more, Andrew will turn 80!

1 Why did you think sweet wine was a good idea at the time?

'In our region, suitable grape varieties do very well, such as those from the muscat-moscato family. They retain their character in a very warm climate zone, so we can make great wines from them. It is also fortunate that about 50 per cent of the US population does not like dry wines. Especially not red wine.'
