Global wine production in 2024 fell to its lowest level since 1961. Climate fluctuations with frosts, storms, heavy rainfall and drought were the main culprits for the decline.

The International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) estimates that global wine production is down again this year, falling to 231 million hl (-2%). OIV publishes annual wine figures. 2023 production also fell, but 2024 production would be the lowest in 63 years.

In the southern hemisphere, there was an overall decline of 2%. In Argentina (+23%!) and Australia (+5%), although production increased this year, this was offset by losses in, for example, Chile (-15%) and South Africa (-5%), as well as New Zealand and Brazil.

Data for the northern hemisphere are still estimates.
