Wine in words: the Gert Crum Wine Writing Prize

Wine in words: the Gert Crum Wine Writing Prize

For those people, the Wine Academy and the Drinks Examinations and Standards Foundation (SDEN) are introducing the Gert Crum Wine Writing Prize in 2026. This writing competition aims to boost the field of wine writing. The prize is named after Gert Crum, one of the Netherlands' best-known wine writers.

About the competition

The competition will have an annually changing theme, but the form and content are completely free. The entry can be an essay, reportage, poem of praise, biographical article or something else. The theme of the first edition, the Gert Crum Wine Writing Prize 2026, is in the spirit of its namesake: Burgundy.

The organisers expressly invite any lover of wine ánd writing to participate: novice, professional, seasoned or amateur. Applications to participate in the Wine Writing Prize must be received at wijnprijs@wijnacademie.nl by 1 December 2025. It must be received by 1 March 2026.
