Dr N.K. Yong, who died in 2021, was a surgeon by profession. He performed the first ever open-heart surgery in Singapore and Malaysia. His second passion was wine. The doctor not only collected, but also wrote a weekly wine column for 30 years for The Business Times. The wine community in Singapore saw him as a mainstay: after all, in this 'New World', classic wine was becoming more and more known and loved.
