Dry January is nearing its end, and from Spain comes big news: Familia Torres is investing a whopping €6 million in a brand-new winery specifically for non-alcoholic wines. With this, the well-known Spanish wine producer aims to further strengthen its leading position in this fast-growing market.

Torres began experimenting with making non-alcoholic wines back in 2004. Four years later, they were the first in Spain to launch the Natureo White, a de-alcoholised wine made from Muscat d'Alexandria. The Natureo line has since expanded to include red, rosé and sparkling wines, and in 2018 even alcohol-free versions of the well-known Sangre de Toro wines followed.
Mundus Vini Non-alcoholic
That Torres is gaining recognition was already evident last April. At the Mundus Vini Non-alcoholic 2024 international wine competition, they were named the "best international producer" of non-alcoholic wines.
The new investment goes to a state-of-the-art winery near their headquarters in Catalonia. Here, they use the so-called 'spinning cone method', a vacuum distillation in which the alcohol is removed at low temperatures. This preserves the aromas and flavours of the original wine as much as possible.
Alcohol-free wines have long since ceased to be a niche product. It is a booming market as well as a serious business, with ever-improving techniques to take flavour to the next level. And Torres is determined to be at the forefront of this.
