Are you in the holiday mood but haven’t yet chosen a destination for a wine tour? If so, Slovenia is a great tip.

Since last year, the new Bike Time route has linked the wine-growing regions of Brda, the Vipava Valley and Kras. The 93-kilometre route is designed as a three-day exploration of vineyards, wineries, historic villages and local cuisine.
In doing so, Slovenia is cleverly capitalising on the growing trend of slow travel: not rushing to reach your destination as quickly as possible, but fully enjoying the scenery, the food and, of course, the wine along the way.
The route
The route runs from the Brda hills, close to the Italian border, through the green Vipava Valley to the Karst region (Kras). Along the way, you’ll pass vineyards, wineries, historic villages and stunning views.
The route is designed as a leisurely, multi-day exploration, during which you can stop along the way for a wine tasting, a local speciality or an overnight stay amongst the vineyards.
Incidentally, the hilly landscape means that an e-bike is no luxury at all. Along the way, you’ll immediately get to know some of Slovenia’s finest wines. Brda is known for Rebula, Vipava for distinctive indigenous grape varieties such as Pinela and Zelen, and in the Karst region, the full-bodied red Teran is the speciality.
