It is with great pride that we announce that Niek Beute will become our new editor-in-chief from Winelife #71, which will be published 11 June! For the past two years, the role of editor-in-chief has been held by Harald Kolkman who also serves as publisher. 'I have enjoyed doing this for the past period, but it was time for a changing of the guard. With Niek Beute, we are bringing in a wine authority that readers are going to enjoy.' Harald remains active as an editor for Winelife Magazine. -TEXT WEB EDITOR | IMAGE NIEK BEUTE

Niek Beute

Niek Beute is a top sommelier who is going to share his knowledge and passion with you in countless ways. His passion for wine and ambition to convey this to anyone who wants to hear is overwhelming. Niek has a wealth of knowledge and experience and a nose for tasteful culinary enjoyment; he knows how to take everyone to the heart of the passion for wine.

How it started.

Niek started at 15e in the hospitality industry and went to hotel school as a matter of course. While at school, he did internships at Michelin-starred restaurants such as De Librije. After his studies, he went to work under Robert Kranenborg at restaurant Vossius. This is where he met his great teacher in hospitality, John Vinke (deceased). Messrs Kranenborg and Vinke saw the potential in Niek and sent him to France. Here, he worked for almost a year at Georges Blanc, a three-star restaurant in Burgundy. While Niek learned the language and culture here, his great love for wine developed.

Jobs

His first job as a sommelier was in Paris, at two-star restaurant Amphycles, before broadening his horizons at Guy Savoy***, also based in Paris. In addition to the high workload he experienced as a sommelier in Paris, he spent all his free hours tasting and reading every wine book available. Back in the Netherlands, he joined restaurant Vermeer as a sommelier and managed to pass his Vinologen training within a year and was voted the Netherlands' most talented host by Gault Millau.

After 7.5 years, Niek decided to set up his own wine experience platform Vinoniek. He also became a columnist for both Perswijn and Winelife and wrote for importers and wine shops.

We are extremely proud that Niek has chosen to become editor-in-chief of Winelife Magazine!
