A boost from Australia for winemakers in California and other forest fire-ravaged areas. A radical decision proved to be the right move. Cut the fire-damaged vines straight back to their stumps. Charles Rosback of Bowyer Ridge Vineyard in Adelaide Hills saw half of his 40,000 saplings catch fire. He was advised to let the burnt vines recover as best he could until winter. But Rosback came up with a risky alternative. He gathered a team of volunteers and provided thirsty survivors of a new irrigation system. The hardest-hit vines were drastically pruned to ground level. 'I planted that vineyard myself in 2002 and to have to cut those vines was very difficult emotionally,' Tells Rosback.

We were invited by Creation and importer Vinites to Castle Engelenburg in Brummen. Near Zutphen. Did you know that their restaurant has the largest collection of South African wines in Europe? This is where some of Creation Wines' restaurant staff have been interning for the past 3 months. And this winter, when it is precisely summer and high season in South Africa. Hope to get a few employees from Engelenburg Castle working there. At least if COVID doesn't throw a spanner in the works....
