Panels of top tasters judged 450 non-alcoholic products in London - from wines, spirits and beers to kombuchas, aperitifs and cocktails. One of the judges is Mariëlle Timmermans from Hooge Mierde in Brabant. She is an expert in alcohol-free and runs the online shop Amavine for good alcohol-free drinks for consumers and the hospitality industry. She says: 'The bar was really high this year. Standing out among 450 other non-alcoholic drinks to an international jury is an achievement. All the medallists are among the absolute best within the non-alcoholic segment.' A number of winners she dragged into her shop, such as the Kolonne Null Verdejo, which won bronze and was previously given a good rating even by Harold Hamersma - not necessarily a supporter of alcohol-free wine. Mariëlle: 'The typical characteristics of the verdejo grape are present, such as citrus tones, fruity notes of gooseberries and the spiciness of bay leaf.' 'Drink with a salad, mussels, fish or white meat: don't forget the citrus in the dish.
