This is how you want to cycle: 50 wineries, the Dolomites and a glass of Trentodoc along the way

You might just find yourself cycling amongst the vines on your steel steed if you follow the Giro del Vino 50, a cycle route through Trentino. You’ll cycle along gentle, flat paths through the Piana Rotaliana, a stunningly beautiful valley full of vineyards, surrounded by the steep Dolomites.

The name says it all: along the way, you’ll pass fifty wineries and artisan distilleries. The Piana Rotaliana is the birthplace of Teroldego Rotaliano, a full-bodied, deep-red wine made from the Teroldego grape, with aromas of cherries and blackberries and that fresh acidity characteristic of Alpine wines.

A lovely bubble bath

You can also fit in a glass of chilled Trentodoc – Italy’s answer to champagne – somewhere along the way – with an alcohol content of 11.5%, you’re more likely to stay on course than after a glass of grappa (from 37.5%). In late summer, it’s a paradise full of juicy, ripe grapes, but don’t forget autumn either: the time when the vines glow with shades of gold and red.
