‘The more knowledge, the stronger our wine culture becomes,’ says wine importer and wine enthusiast Henrico van Lammeren, president of the Royal Association of Dutch Wine Traders (KVNW).

‘As an association, we see daily how important knowledge is in the wine world. Behind every bottle is a story of grape variety, climate and craftsmanship. To tell those stories well - whether you work in the wine trade, in the catering industry, or want to deepen your knowledge as an enthusiast - solid wine education is indispensable.
This is why we have been strongly committed from the start to the creation of the Drinks Examinations and Standards Foundation (SDEN). This foundation offers a clear learning model that allows everyone to build up their knowledge, from a first introduction to wine (SDEN level 1) to the specialised Vinologen training (SDEN level 4) and Magister Vini (SDEN level 5). For the sector, this is of great value.
SDEN certificate
Increasingly, employers in trade and hospitality are asking for SDEN certification, proof that someone has the right basics. This creates more trust, better service and a higher appreciation of quality wines. We are convinced that investing in wine education not only helps professionals, but also consumers. Those who receive expert advice when choosing a wine enjoy the glass in their hand with more knowledge and pleasure. Therefore, together with partners such as the SDEN and the Wine Academy, we continue to strive for a solid foundation for Dutch wine education. Because the more knowledge there is in the sector, the stronger our wine culture becomes.’
