For this section, we previously asked you to participate in a survey. Of this, we are now announcing the results. This time, there were significantly more participants. The first time, exactly 100 people participated. Fortunately, for this survey, there were more - 480. Super nice!
The participants
We never want to pigeonhole ourselves, but it is still fun to compare yourself to others in this way. For this survey, too, we created four groups. There were 91 pros, 129 avid wine nerds, 250 enthusiasts and 10 curious noobs. Want to know what the difference is again? You can read that here.
On average, how much do you spend on a bottle?
If you buy a bottle of wine every week, no doubt you have a fixed budget attached to it. What should a bottle of good elixir of life cost? Exactly half of the participants said they spend between 8 and 15 euros per bottle on this on average. Of these, over 100 participants were among the enthusiasts. Twenty-three nerds spent more, namely between 35 and 100 euros. Remarkably, no one spends more than 100 euros per bottle on a weekly basis, unlike in the next question.
Because what do you spend when you are sure that bottle is really super delicious?
The vast majority are willing to pay an extra 10 to 30 euros for this. In this, no clear distinction can be made between pros, nerds, enthusiasts and noobs. Yet 42 aficionados choose not to pay anything extra for a good wine. They like to keep it at the same amount. The pros like it. They can go wild on wine and are willing to pay at least 100 euros extra for it. 48 participants indicated that there is no limit to the price of a good bottle of wine. These were 38 nerds and the rest were pros. Our Henrieke from the marketing department wonders if there happens to be a single man among them.
Hangover, do we know it?
We have all looked too deep into the glass at one time or another. So how honest have you been when answering this question? 41.7% of participants said they drink modestly. They know where the limit is and do not cross it. Exactly half indicated that they still sometimes wake up with a bit of misery, but that this does not happen often. 27 answers came only from enthusiasts, who were quite honest that they still suffer from a bit of a headache. Get well! A little paracetamol does wonders!
So how much do you drink in an evening?
Indeed, the vast majority (58.3%) drink modestly, this includes nerds, pros, enthusiasts and noobs alike. 7 enthusiasts often wonder the next morning exactly how many glasses it had become. And you are a nerd or not: the nerds drink 5 to 8 glasses of wine a night.
How many days a week do you drink?
27 lovers drink only 1 day a week. Remarkably, exactly these 27 people also indicated that they wake up the next morning with a hangover and drink 5 to 8 glasses or more per night. Most nerds drink 3 days a week, most noobs 4 days and most pros also 3 days.
Where do you buy your wine?
No one reported buying the wine in the supermarket. While as much as 75% of wine in the Netherlands is bought at Albert Heijn. The vast majority (and the pros all) go to a winery or liquor store for wine. 8% go to a wholesaler like Makro and this same percentage chooses to travel quite a few kilometres for their favourite: they drive to a vineyard especially for it. Almost a quarter of all participants prefer to stay at home and arrange online for home delivery. These are mainly nerds and enthusiasts.
