It has been a while since we joined the official opening of restaurant Judith in Engelenburg Castle. But the memories are lasting and, if the stories are to be believed, so is the quality.

On 19 March, the newly revived gastronomic venue opened its doors. A glass of high-class champagne (Bollinger La Grande Année 2015) upon entering the historic building surrounded by typical Cape cottages, making you briefly feel like you are in Stellenbosch instead of Gelderland.
The large collection of South African wines on the menu reinforces this. At the table, we enjoyed light, fresh dishes prepared with precision and love by chef Bas Diepenbroek his sous Joris Gerrits were prepared. The bread was so delicious in the process that we asked if it could please be taken off the table, we kept eating it. Sommelier Jorik Salet delivered solid, well-chosen wines with the highlight being a glass of 1931 PX sherry. A worthy finale to the fine wine cellar.
