In a world that is slowly rebounding, the urge to meet is greater than ever before. And with bigger get-togethers comes great wine enjoyment. So we ask ourselves: 'Does size matter?' Is the size of the bottle a matter of pretence or is there more to it?

Personally, I think most big bottles are opened to steal the show. After all, it is also great to show off a big bottle. There are also the bag-in-box packages. These are especially incredibly practical at, say, a party or as an everyday house wine. These are not wines to age in the cellar, they are the packaging of instant enjoyment.

The magnum bottle, that's another story. It is the size of two bottles, one and a half litres. These are definitely not economy packs. They are mostly high-quality wines that you can safely pay 15 per cent more for than two single bottles. Also because the aging potential is much greater than a usual bottle and so, over time, you are more likely to get art than with a regular bottle size.
