Pinot noir in German is a spätburgunder. Naturally, this also tastes a bit German. This is surprisingly different, being just a little more earthy and at the same time fresher than the French version. In this pinot noir variation, from a sandy loamy soil in the Palatinate, you taste strawberry yoghurt, aromas of cherries and red berries, with a layer of toasted hazelnut and a scoop of wet leaves on top. The whole thing is pleasantly spicy and soft on the palate. In short, a totally different experience from classic Burgundy.

The explanation for all this is the totally different terroir. That is the combination of the grape, the climate, the soil but also certainly what the winemaker did with it. In this case, it is a duo, namely the two brothers, Michael and Martin Braun. They gave the juice a while to mature on stainless steel tanks. It then moves to a huge 2,600-litre barrel for a year. Wine barrels are usually made from French or American oak, but here it comes from the Palatinate forest itself. Michael and Martin talk about them 'washing' the wine in wood for a while longer. In any case, the effect can be tasted. Try it for yourself!
