Very likely, you have never heard of the Plavac Mali. This 'little blue' is the main grape for red wines in the Croatian region of Dalmatia. It is a small indigenous grape with a lot of skin and a high tannin content.
This plavac mali has aromas of sour cherry, plum, bay leaf and a light white pepper. This is not a terrass lamb, but a serious table companion. That's because of the firm characteristic tannins, something protein-rich is best with it. Think a cheese platter, charcuterie, hearty fish dishes and anything from the BBQ. We tasted it with a chorizo bean dish. Delicious! Be careful not to serve it too hot, 16 to 18 degrees maximum.
