NEGRO Dolcetto d'Alba Cescu 2024

NEGRO Dolcetto d'Alba Cescu 2024

Cescu is the pet name of former uncle Francesco Negro. We couldn't ask him, but it could just be that this dolcetto is his favourite wine. Not so strange, considering that wine from this grape is the ‘always good and tasty’ wine of much of the Italian population.

It is the least famous grape from the famed northern Italian Piedmont wine region. Here, the Negro family has been making a whole range of wines, including dolcetto, since 1670.

Although its name means ‘little sweet’, there is nothing sweet about this slightly brusque, fresh red wine with bins of cherry, blueberry, plum, an edge of black earth and some tannins in the background. Pure steel without a sliver of wood during ageing guaranteed a fresh-fruited no-nonsense wine. Not super complex, just very tasty. So get it out of the box quickly and put it in the fridge. It will be at temperature by the time you put the antipasti on the table.
