Lorgeril Mas des Montagnes Roussillon Villages Rouge 2023

Lorgeril Mas des Montagnes Roussillon Villages Rouge 2023

Winemaking in southern France is a lot more challenging in 2026 than it was 50 years ago. Even the twelfth generation of the Lorgeril family, with four centuries of experience in the area, knows this. They too see the climate changing, which is precisely why they bought some very old vineyards northwest of Perpignan. A smart move, as these vineyards are located at the foot of Mount Canigou on high-altitude terraces. Here the grapes get more coolness, giving the region's authentic wines a modern, fresh twist. Concrete cuves and used barriques are used so that the grenache and syrah zoch of their most elegant side. Whereas Roussillon was previously known for rugged and robust reds, this Mas des Montagnes is juicy, mineral and fruity, with that delicious garrigue spiciness. Add lamb chop from the grill pan and enjoy. At Lorgeril they are clearly ready for the future, as you can read on page 30 in WINELIFE 99 (shop it here).
