It is hardly surprising that most wine lovers associate Bordeaux wines with full-bodied reds. Yet here, too, they are in the process of bringing about a much-needed cultural shift.
One of the pioneers in this field is Château Le Grand Verdus, as demonstrated by this ‘natural pétillant’. It is indeed a sparkling wine, but one made according to ‘’the traditional method’, a centuries-old technique in which the bubbles form without the addition of sugars or yeast. Naturally, it was made from the classic red Bordeaux varieties. Before you start worrying (do not shake): it’s meant to look slightly cloudy. That’s because it was bottled unfiltered. Simply pop the crown cap and enjoy this lively sparkling wine, bursting with aromas of apple, pear and a hint of redcurrant. Serve this Pet’ Nat chilled, at around 8 to 10 °C, for the best experience.
