Chateau De L'Hyverniere Muscadet Sevre Et Maine Sur Lie

Muscadet is France's largest monocépage vineyard, located on the Atlantic Ocean. The vines are close to being rooted in salty water. That this large pool of water affects the taste of the wine is obvious. Muscadet comes from the Nantais, the westernmost part of the Loire. The wines are briny fresh and elegant with character and depth. It is also the mussel or oyster wine of choice. The area is divided into four AOPs, namely Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, AOC Muscadet, AOC Muscadet Coteaux de la Loire and Muscadet Côtes
de Grandlieu. These four regions are only allowed to make wine from the one grape, the melon de bourgogne. This is why Muscadet is so unique in France.

This is also a real wine of its time, as its maximum alcohol content is 12%. So nice and light, but with depth and complexity. This is due to the ageing on lie. This term - in French it is tiré sur lie - means that the wine has matured on its lees (yeast cells). This gives just such an accent of intensity, depth and complexity. So don't think this is just an aperitif wine. Thanks to its lie maturation, it is gastronomically excellent. It is delicious with dishes featuring white fish.
