Not all rosé comes from France. Take this one, for example, from Bengula Cove Lagoon Wine Estate, a unique winery in Hermanus, South Africa. Take a sip and feel the fresh sea breeze that kept the grapes for this wine cool during the growing season.
You can tell straight away that there’s nothing sun-baked about this rosé, which is why it’s a great accompaniment to fish or poultry. This is also down to the five per cent Sauvignon Blanc, which, alongside the vast majority of Shiraz and a touch of Cabernet Franc, keeps the whole thing nicely fresh. It’s a lively rosé, bursting with intense red fruit flavours that go very well with a curry.
It is slightly darker in colour and more intense in flavour than the pale varieties you find everywhere in wine shops these days. This is a rosé for wine drinkers who like their wine with a bit of bite.
